Enjoy your Baby Bump, Love your Pregnancy

“I am proud of many things in life, but nothing beats being a Mother”

Yes, I am a proud mother and enjoying my motherhood every single day. But the truth is, I didn’t enjoy my baby bump and that time I was going through the worst phase of my life.

I know it doesn’t sound good but that was the reality.

I had PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease) and Doctor advised me to take baby as soon as possible. I was 26 that time and Doctor told me that 26 age is okay for being a mother. But if I compare myself with my other friends then my marriage was early and baby…dur ki baat 🙁

Some of my friends do not want baby in their life and they want to enjoy their life. I also wanted to enjoy my life and didn’t have any plan for this early pregnancy. We thought, after spending 2 – 3 years, we would plan for it. But as I said, all is destiny.

In 2013, December we went for a Nepal Trip to attend one of my colleague’s (Rajesh) wedding. I was so disturbed and I thought, since I had PCOD, I couldn’t be a mother. I was disturbed for two reasons:

I didn’t want an early pregnancy but at the same time I wanted to be a mother too. But my Doctor told me, if I want baby then I have to plan early.

In Feb 2014, I was going to attend one of my best friend’s wedding. It was Ananya. Suddenly, I got Pox and had taken an off from everything for 15 days. After recovery, my doctor asked me for an Ultra Sound Test and report was positive. I was 7 weeks pregnant that time…

Yes, that was a news for me. I can’t even express in words how happy I was. But doctor told us, that I had pox when I was 2 or 3 weeks pregnant.

Having Pox attack during pregnancy is not good news at all. My doctor’s name is Dr. B.B. Sarkar, one of the best Obstetrician-Gynecologists in kolkata. This 75 years old gentleman is God to me. I read all online articles on that and asked him so many questions coz, I was so frightened with my pregnancy and didn’t even enjoy my Baby Bump.

He explained that, it was in the early stage and we shouldn’t get worried for that. He told, “Negative things can happen at any time with anyone, Pox is not an issue.” I was tensed and I went through different tests starting from Anomaly scan to Double Marker test. Each report was like Exam result for me that time.

For Pox, I was in leave already and for the pregnancy news I didn’t join back also. So, sitting idle all the day, made things worst. During pregnancy Doctors always suggest you to be happy, read good books, think positive. But mine was exceptional. My office was off, I didn’t go out with friends, that tension for Pox….moreover, mood swings for sudden hormonal changes. I became depressed, irritated.

During my 7 months of pregnancy, my blood sugar level became high, in medical term it is – Gestational Diabetes. During pregnancy, the placenta makes hormones that can lead to a buildup of sugar in your blood. Usually, your pancreas can make enough insulin to handle that. If not, your blood sugar levels will rise and can cause gestational diabetes.

Unfortunately that also happened with me… 🙁

That time I was in my Parent’s house and consulting a local Gynecologist: Dr. Gautam Dutta Sharma (Junior of Dr. B.B. Sarkar). I had a very bad experience with him. After getting my diabetes report, he told me, “You know, for this diabetes intra-uterine death of the baby can happen anytime!”.

Just think, I was a pregnant woman and my doctor was telling me these. Then he told me to consult his wife – Dr. Rakhi Dutta Sharma. That lady prescribed us GTT test from R&T, Park Street.

Gestational Diabetes is a type of diabetes that occurs during pregnancy only and I think it should be treated by the Gynecologist. But Dr. Dutta Sharma referred me her wife and both of them took separate fees from me. This is how our medical business is going on and many people like me becoming the victims of time.

For that GTT test, we have hired a car and it took long time. I had to stay there with empty stomach during pregnancy which is very difficult. In one word, it was a complete harassment. Moreover, Dr. Rakhi Sen Sharma, told me to buy Glucometer and she suggested me to do a sugar test daily 5 times.

A Glucometer costs 1200 bucks with 10 testing trips. A box of 100 trips costs 1000 bucks separately. I think you people can understand, it was like spending money like water.

The Dr. Couple’s behavior was bad too. It was the worst phase of my life indeed. Finally I decided that I wouldn’t deliver my baby at their nursing home (Bindu Bashini Nursing Home). But it was not an easy decision and I was on my last stage of delivery. But when God is with you, you need not to think much 🙂

There was another nursing home at our area and the head Doctor was so good, a real gentleman. He gave me confidence and my son was delivered by him.

I still remember that day, it was 23rd of September, 2014 and it was Mahalaya. my Mom, Dad & my husband have admitted me and next day i.e. 24th September at 9.52am I gave birth of my son, my reason of smile – My Mickey Mouse. My proud moment, my second birth as a Mother.

I didn’t enjoy my baby bump, my pregnancy but I am enjoying my Motherhood. Trust me, all is changed now. It is true that you may not go for a late night party or sudden outing but you can get a warm hug and a precious smile. When you are working, sometimes it becomes hard to balance everything. But I believe a Woman remains incomplete without having a child. The sleepless night may give dark circles under your eyes but at the same time it will give you the most precious gift of your life – your child.

Your baby is like a seedling and you have to nurture it with all your care and love. Don’t be tensed with your pregnancy rather cherish it.

10 Tips from my end:

  1. If you are working, then consult your doctor and go for office as many days you can. It is good for you and your baby too.
  2. Drink good amount of water, sleep at time and avoid junk foods
  3. Take medicine regularly and go for doctor checkup every month.
  4. Read good books, watch good videos and do things that make you happy.
  5. Consult your Doctor and do Yoga (optional)
  6. Shop for maternity wear and flaunt your baby bump like Kareena Kapoor. 🙂
  7. You may get many pregnancy marks in your body… don’t feel bad with that. All are just the reaction of pregnancy hormone secretion.
  8. Read online articles about pregnancy, educate yourself. Don’t trust your doctor blindly. Keep on your research also.
  9. Best sleep position during pregnancy is “SOS” (sleep on side). Even better is to sleep on your left side.
  10. Say NO to your sex life. (Not good for your baby)

Enjoy your pregnancy, Enjoy BabyBump, Enjoy your motherhood, be a proud Mother.

    1. I took medicine for PCOD, that was working for PCOD treatment and at the same time it worked as contraceptive pill. But when my doctor told me that age 26 is good to conceive when you have PCOD, I stop taking all medicines.
