Robot dance is basically a street style dance. This form is used as a part of Popping also. It gained popularity after Michael Jackson used the dance when he performed “Dancing Machine” with his brothers.

How to perform this dance?

In Robot dance, the dancers move their limbs in a way that imitate the movement of a robot. Robotic movements generally start and finish with a dime stop (a very abrupt stop), to give the impression of motors starting and stopping. It is considered as a sub-section of Popping.

When it is performed without music, is known as Mime.

Instruments:

The best effect is achieved with music that has very distinct beats such as electro funk. Now choreographers do lot of improvisation with the music. They do song mixing perfectly to get the proper beats.

Costumes:

There is no specific costume; dancers are dressed up like a robot. If they use this dance form as a part of popping then they wear typical western costume. Sometimes, neon lights can be used in the costume to highlight the limb movements.
