Summer Skin Saver Beauty Routines

summer skin care routine

Summer is probably the harshest time for the skin to deal with from the seasonal atrocities. With mercury touching up to 45 degrees, the heat in the atmosphere literally saps the skin of its natural moisture and sebum.

This is the time for hydration:

Pick up cleansers that are low on surfactants and devoid of chemicals like SLS, SLES, mineral oils, silicones and other harsh chemicals as they rip the skin of moisture.

Micellar Waters are a rage these days though they have existed since decades for gentle face cleansing. These contain tiny micelles of oil or lipophilic substances that stick to the dirt and sweat on the skin and can be wiped off easily with cotton pads or cleansing wipes.

Top up with light daytime moisturizers with safe humectants like Aloe Vera, Floral waters, sodium lactate, glycerin, light oils like Avocado, Jojoba, Sunflower do not suffocate he skin with heaviness or greasy feeling. Remember a little bit of fatty acid content is necessary for the skin to maintain its natural PH balance. One of the main reasons for skin aging is loss of moisture content and a good moisturizer is considered one of the best anti aging products for the skin.

Scrub that scum. Sweat, dirt and pollution wreak havoc on the skin making scrubbing an essential part of body care in summers. Oats, herbs and flower petals in scrubs or soap scrubs provide gentle cleansing and while they gently slough off the dead skin cells and dirt sticking on the skin surface, essential oils like peppermint, lavender, vetiver, rosemary refresh you with their cooling effect and give you that much needed relief from the heat. Scrub soaps are the easiest and quickest options as they not only remove dirt and help exfoliate but also prevent the skin from developing body acne.

Needless to say Sun Protection is the most integral part of summer skin care routine. Nothing can cause a greater damage and faster aging on the skin that exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. A good quality organic sunblock should be at the top in your beauty armory. Sun blocks are different sunscreens, they block or reflect away the harmful sun rays by creating a barrier on the skin surface, while sunscreens filter the sun rays. High heat and UV radiations damage the collagen and elastin present in the skin that give the skin, its suppleness, elasticity and resilience that prevent aging, fine lines and wrinkles.  So next time you head out to buy anti aging products make sure a broad spectrum organic sub block is in your shopping list.
